My inspiration 2PAC

LEGEND

Image

Tupac Amaru Shakur was an inspiration to millions.

While  2Pac was most famous for his rap career,  he was also a gifted actor, poet and thoughtful while outspoken advocate for the poor and the overlooked in America. During his life, he produced an immense amount of artistic work, which included studio albums, major Hollywood feature films, and published works.  He was most prolific in the music industry, selling over 75 million albums. 2Pac’s unapologetic lyrics were relevant, important, and reflective of the hard lives led by many. His music earned attention and respect through a poetic style that embraced street vocabulary while being innovative. Today, 2Pac is still considered by many to be one of the biggest influences on modern hip-hop.

2Pac’s career has earned him six Grammy nominations and three MTV Video Music Award nominations. In 1997, Shakur was honored by the American Music Awards as the Favorite Hip Hop Artist.

Born on June 16 1971 in New York City, Shakur’s parents were both members of the Black Panther Party whose militant style and provocative ideologies for civil rights would come to influence 2Pac’s music. At an early age, Tuapc’s love for performance and the arts began to show, as he began acting at age 13 and later enrolled in the Baltimore School of the Arts before dropping out at 17. Shakur broke into the music business with rap group Digital Underground as a back-up dancer and roadie. Eventually Shakur released his first solo album in ’91, 2pacalypse Now. 2Pac’s music career began to grow as his second album, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z included two top 20 pop chart tracks: I Get Around and Keep Ya Head Up.

Shakur’s legal battles began after he established his rap career. In the early nineties Shakur faced a wrongful death suit which settled out of court, accusations of assaulting police officers where charges were ultimately dropped, and even an incident where Shakur sustained five gunshot wounds from shooter Dexter Isaac. In 1995 2Pac was sentenced one-and-a-half to four-and-a-half years in prison for sexual abuse. However, not even prison could slow the success of Shakur’s career.

While incarcerated 2Pac’s latest album at the time, Me Against the World, was number one in the pop charts and would later go double platinum. Shakur became the first artist to reach number one in the pop charts while serving a prison sentence. Making the most of his time in jail, 2Pac became a passionate reader. Among his favorites were the works of Niccolò Machiavelli, an Italian Renaissance writer whose works were in part the foundation for western political science. Shakur’s appreciation of his work inspired the nickname: Makaveli.

After serving only eight months of his sentence, 2Pac was out on parole thanks to a 1.4 million dollar bond paid by Suge Knight, CEO of Death Row Records. Now signed with Death Row Records, Shakur went on to create All Eyez on Me, which featured hits How Do You Want It and California Love.

2Pac’s life was cut short in September of 1996 when Shakur became the victim of a drive-by shooting while his car waited on a red light. While Shakur survived the surgery that followed he was pronounced dead almost a week after the attack.

Even today, 2Pac’s influence is wide-spread. From the Library of Congress where his song Dear Mama was added in 2010 to the National Registry, to artists like 11 time Grammy winner Eminem who in an interview with MTV said:

“He made you feel like you knew him. I think that , honestly, Tupac was the greatest songwriter that ever lived. He made it seem so easy. The emotion was there, and feeling, and everything he was trying to describe. You saw a picture that he was trying to paint.”

2Pac leaves a legacy of honesty and passion in his songs. Respected by many,  2Pac has become an inspiration for artists and a standard in rap music.

Nigerian oil tycoon takes Oprah’s place as richest black woman in the world

Nigerian oil tycoon takes Oprah’s place as richest black woman in the world

Oprah Winfrey has lost her long-held title as the richest black woman in the world to a Nigerian oil tycoon, according to a report by an African business magazine.

Edging out Oprah is Folorunsho Alakija, a 61-year-old woman from Nigeria who is reportedly worth at least $3.2 billion, or roughly $500 million more than Oprah’s $2.7 billion net worth, Ventures Africa reported.

Alakija is the founder and owner of Famfa Oil, which owns a 60 per cent interest in OML 127, an offshore oil field that produces roughly 200,000 barrels of oil per day and is worth an estimated $6.44 billion.

Also a fashion designer and philanthropist, Alakija is married and has four grown sons, as well as one grandchild. She owns at least $100 million in real estate and $46 million private jet, Ventures Africa reported.

Born into a wealthy Nigerian family, Alakija started out as a secretary in the mid 1970s at the now defunct International Merchant Bank of Nigeria.

Several years later, she quit her job and moved to London, where she studied fashion design. She later returned to Nigeria and launched her fashion line, Supreme Stitches, which caters to upscale, high-society women.

While she was building her name as a fashion designer, Alakija in 1993 applied for an Oil Prospecting License — an expensive permit that allows for oil exploration in a specified area.

The Nigerian government granted her request and allocated a 617,000-acre block of land to Alakija for oil exploration — but she knew nothing about finding and extracting oil.

So in September of 1996, she appointed Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited — a subsidiary of Texaco — to act as a technical adviser for her business.

In 2000, Star Deep Petroleum determined that Alakija’s land contained an excess of one billion barrels of oil. When this was discovered, the Nigerian government tried to re-acquire half of the oil-rich block it had sold to Alakija.

The Nigerian government was successful and Alakija lost control of all but 10 percent of her oil company until 2012, when Nigeria’s highest court reversed the government’s actions.

With Alakija now back in control of 60 percent of the oil company, her net worth has shot up to $3.2 billion, an estimate that Ventures Africa calls extremely conservative.

Alakija’s sons now run Famfa Oil and her husband, Modupe Alakija, is the chairman of the company.

She recently purchased a $102 million property at One Hyde Park in London, as well as a Bombardier Global Express 6000 jet, which she bought earlier this year for $46 million.

Her charity, Rose of Sharon Foundation, gives out small grants to widows and orphans.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z Break A Billion

Beyoncé and Jay-Z Break A Billion

The Carters have reportedly become the first billion dollar couple in music.

Beyonce, Jay-Z

Here’s one more reason to “Bow Down” when Beyoncé hits the stage at the Staples Center on Friday June 28 to kick off the BET Experience. Mrs. Carter and her man are officially the first billion-dollar couple in music history.

The International Business Times is reporting that the profits from Young B’s Mrs. Carter tour (reportedly $116 million) as well as her recent H&M campaign have pushed the power couple over the nine-figure threshold.

In case you’re keeping score, Beyoncé has also done endorsement deals with L’Oreal and Tommy Hilfiger, racked up 17 Grammy Awards, and sold over 75 million records worldwide. And that’s not counting her film career.

All that plus she’s raising her daughter Blue Ivy and buying her man private jets for father’s day. (Of course Jay’s got a few assets of his own, but you already know about Roc Nation and the New Jersey Nets.) So when she says “I Been On” you’d best believe her.

Tyga Tickets and UK Concert Dates

Imagec

Names can speak volumes. Worth a thousand words, a name will automatically alert others of intension, persona, and, of course, vibe. The right moniker can give people a lasting impression so it’s important to choose wisely and very carefully.By the time he was 12, Michael Nguyen Stevenson was already known around his neighborhood as Tiger. Soon after, Stevenson set his sights on becoming a rapper and thought that he needed a new handle. Tiger wasn’t going to cut it, but rather than totally change his name, he simply tweaked it and came up with Tyga. The new name is more than a simple alias. It’s an acronym for Thank You God Always.

Tyga became obsessed with music, diligently studying the work of Eminem, Cash Money Records, Nas and 2Pac, among others. In a move that would soon provide unintended benefits, Tyga started listening to the songs of his favorite artists and spending hours transcribing the lyrics to their songs. He then would rap along to the song as the music played.

About five years ago, Tyga earned a famous fan in Travie McCoy, lead singer of Gym Class Heroes, when they met at a Los Angeles shoe store.  Impressed by Tyga’s work, McCoy took the aspiring rapper under his wing, flying him out to join his group on tour. While working and touring with McCoy, Tyga recorded and independently released his No Introduction album and met Lil Wayne. Wayne was working on Tha Carter III at the time. Tyga soaked up everything he could from Wayne, especially his remarkable work ethic. Tyga also started developing his public persona as a gifted lyricist who can make credible songs aimed at women and hard-hitting braggadocio bangers.

Standout performances on Young Money’s We Are Young Money album (notably on the singles “Bedrock” and “Roger That”), Chris Brown’s “Deuces” and a multitude of well-received mix-tapes set the stage for Tyga’s highly anticipated Young Money/Cash Money debut album, Careless World: Rise of The Last King, which includes the debut single “Far Away” featuring Cash Money artist Chris Richardson.

In-depth Biography
With a rangy set of friends from Fall Out Boy to Lil Wayne, it was obvious from the start that Tyga was not your everyday rapper from Compton. After recording a mixtape and promoting it around the city, Tyga ran into his cousin, Gym Class Heroes member Travis McCoy, in the Flight Club L.A. sneaker shop. Their conversation went from shoes to rappers, and as Travis’ group went from unknowns to MTV stars, he would always remember that talk and his cousin’s unique style. Travis signed Tyga to his Bad Squad label and then invited him along when the punk-pop group Fall Out Boy came calling. Travis and Tyga would appear on the remix to Fall Out Boy’s “Arms Race,” which also featured Kanye West, Paul Wall, Skinhead Rob, Lupe Fiasco, and Lil Wayne. When the remix became a hit, Tyga found himself performing the track on MTV’s Video Music Awards in 2007. He soon entered the studio to do some guest shots for his new friend Lil Wayne before shifting the focus to his solo career. His first single became the hooky “Coconut Juice,” a S*A*M & Sluggo production that borrowed a bit of Harry Nilsson’s hit “Coconut.” As the club track was climbing the charts in the spring of 2008, Tyga was hard at work on his debut album, No Introduction, which was officially released that June. He returned in 2011 with Careless World, an album that featured Game, Snoop Dogg, and Drake among its guests. ~ David Jeffries, Rovi

JAY-Z NEW ALBUM 2013

Image

The Internets are buzzing again about a possibility that a new Jay-Z albumwill be dropping this year.

It’s been four years since Based Hov has blessed us with a solo joint but according to Illseed of AllHipHop.com, Jay is currently working on a new solo project that might even feature some new young guns in the game.

From what I have been hearing, Jay is using this tour with Justin Timberlake to set up the new album. I would have expected him to drop it before a major tour but Jay knows what Jay is doing. As for the music, I heard Jay is talking greasy again! I guess he can afford to do that, since he’s still on the court as

a starter. Lots of new bucks coming in the game. Apparently, he’s recorded with one of them already

.

Are you anticipating a new Jay-Z solo album?
